Carnival Cruise Lines complaint by Jamie8092
I will never go on a Carnival Cruise ship again. We went on the Carnival Conquest that was supposed to head to Jamaica, Grand Caymans and Cozumel.

There was an emergency on board. They said a crewmember was 6 months pregnant, had a miscarriage and was hemorraging so they had to turn around and stop the ship so the US Coast Guard can come get her by helicopter.

Can someone tell what the H— a 6 month pregnant lady is doing on a cruise?!!! It was ridiculous. To top that off, all they refunded us was the $25 dollars fuel surcharge to Jamaica! What kind of justice is $25? We spent that much money on drinks in like 3 hours or 5 minutes playing in their casinos. The whole reason I went on that cruise was so I can go to Jamaica.

Carnival Cruise did not even try to resolve the issue even though there was a petition signed by A LOT of people. The cruise sucked! We were on the ship for 5 days and only got off the ship for two half days. To me, that was not worth it. I’d rather much just fly to a destination, stay in a hotel and have more time to do things. Besides, it’s not guaranteed that you’re going to get to go to all the destinations. I hear it happens pretty often.

I was upset several years ago when another cruise line (a very good one) skipped a stop at Key West. Their reasoning was they did not pay for a dock (no excuse!) and the water was too rough to tender in to shore. So what did they do for us? Just an announcement apologizing. I agree with the writer - - - $25 is a ridiculous consulation prize for Jamaica, one of my favorite stops in the Caribbean. I also agree I would never step foot on a Carnival Cruise. I'm surprised anyone other than single "looking" would want to save a few bucks and go on Carnival. Try Royal Caribbean for a class act and still affordable. Very family friendly, and still plenty of social opportunities.

Unfortunately, all cruise contracts say they don't guarantee the ports. They should certainly try harder. When we missed Key West, we were disappointed. There was a couple onboard that intended on getting married there. So did all their guests who were already in Key West waiting for the wedding party to arrive by ship! They ended up getting married on the ship, but all their guests were on land, and they were not. I would be avery pissed consumer!

Cruiser,

I went on the same cruise that Jaime8092 did. While agreeing with you in your post; I think you failed to understand that (I'm assuming) we weren't so much mad at missing Jamaica as we were with Carnival's attitude towards the whole deal... kind of a "oh well, we've already got your money... sorry for your luck". And thats what I'm not liking about it.

We're all thrilled that the employee in question was/is ok, but Carnival did another huge wrong by telling us what the medical emergency was. Under HIPPA, I dont believe they're allowed to share confidential information like that.

Thank you! Thank you for enlightening me - I had no idea that a six-month pregnant lady was "not allowed" on a cruise ship. Really, did you think about what you were typing before you rattled that off. Furthermore, anybody who is familiar with cruises knows that there is always a chance the cruise itinerary may change. While it can be a little aggravating, ports of call are subject to conditions such as weather, sea conditions and other unpredictable emergencies. When you have a ship filled with hundreds or thousands of passengers - you have an obligation to ensure the safety of each and every one of those passengers and crew members. Therefore, if there is an emergency with a person on the ship (regardless of their pregnancy status) - such as a person who is hemorraging, then I would hope the ship's crew would do whatever it took to get that person the medical attention they needed. I am betting you would would feel the same way, if it were you or your family member. So, think before you type!
